Normally during the annual conference, the NCBC announces award recipients. But as you know, 2020 has been anything but normal. So, just for a moment, pretend you are at the annual conference as we celebrate our 2020 award recipients. Congratulations to all!
Special Service Awards – The NCBC LEAD Academy, a 4-month leadership development program for non-supervisory NCBC members to develop essential leadership skills, leaned heavily on a group of 28 dedicated mentors. Mentorship was an essential component for the success of the LEAD Academy program. The NCBC is appreciative of the time invested by this group of mentors to help our LEAD Academy participants work through the curriculum and formulate a plan for continued learning and development of their existing knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Service Awards – A relocation for a court is never an easy task, especially when there is 30 years of accumulated “stuff,” otherwise known as accountable property. Moves can be more complex when a building is 90 years old, and after having dealt with broken water pipes in each of the previous three winters. The divisional office of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Court did move. Staff had their work cut out for them as they assessed how to stage the move and prioritize the work. Chief Deputy Clerk, Mohung Wong along with Deputy-in-Charge, Belinda Wagner and IT Specialist, Ken Smith were tasked with managing the project. As they assessed the project and developed a plan of action, no detail was left unturned, even down to the retirement of an American flag that had become tattered and faded. The move was deemed a success thanks in no small part to these three. The NCBC congratulates Mo, Belinda, and Ken on their Special Service Awards.
Special Service Awards – The NCBC Mentorship program regularly matches up mentors with mentees throughout the courts. In 2020, four individuals stepped forward to participate as mentors. We appreciate their dedication and service to our membership. The NCBC recognizes Lorraine Adam (FLSB), Christy Gurgone (NCEB), Heather Burse (MIWB), and Curtis Udy (WAWB) for their contributions as mentors.
Special Service Award – It is never easy learning a new job. Thankfully, in the bankruptcy community there are those who will often step forward to lend a hand to someone learning a new job. That is just the situation that developed for one financial specialist who took on a new role with her court. Another financial administrator in a neighboring district reached out by offering advice, answering questions, and general support as she was learning her new duties. The NCBC would like to recognize Bernita Striplin (GAMB) with a Special Service Award for her support and hands-on training for another colleague. Thanks, Bernita!
Special Service Awards – The NCBC would like to thank outgoing Board Member, Mary Schott (NVB) for her service as Treasurer (2017-2018) and as a member of the Board of Governors (2018-2020). In addition, we recognize outgoing Board Member, Mona Sparks (KYEB) for her service as a member of the Board of Governors (2014-2018) and service as NCBC Treasurer (2018-2020). We also recognize Jennifer Paro (CACB) for her service as Co-Historian (2014-2020). We sincerely appreciate your service to our organization and thank you for your dedication and your many contributions.
