The NCBC Member Spotlight is a feature that allows NCBC members across the nation to get to know one another. If you would like to be featured in a future NCBC Member Spotlight, please contact Jennifer Mahar. In this issue, we meet NCBC member Maggie Ferere!
Name: Maggie Ferere
Position: Deputy-in-Charge
Court: United States Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Florida, Fort Lauderdale Division
How long have you been with the Federal Judiciary?
28 years
How long have you been a member of the NCBC, and how do you get involved?
I’ve been an NCBC member for many years (I can’t remember!). I’ve been a member of the Awards and Scholarships Committee since 2011 (I think this is the year the committee was initially formed.) I’ve also been our district representative since 2012.
What has been your favorite NCBC Conference experience?
I’ve never attended a conference I didn’t enjoy, but my absolute favorite conference was the one in Baltimore in 2013. Before moving to South Florida, I spent 16 years at the Maryland Bankruptcy Court. The conference planning phase was just beginning the year I left, and I was disappointed that I wouldn’t be around to help. I was excited to see what my friends and coworkers had done, and I knew they wouldn’t disappoint. I was so proud of all of them for giving us such an AWESOME conference!
How would you like to be more involved with the NCBC in the future?
I plan to continue my membership with NCBC indefinitely. I’ve learned a lot, and made many friends. I hope to also continue my commitment to the Awards and Scholarships Committee. It’s a great way to help our members’ professional and personal development. We also help those who might not otherwise be able to attend our annual conferences. In this era of budgetary constraints, it’s important to tap into all our resources! I am proud to serve in this capacity and will continue to share with others the benefits of being an NCBC member.
